Water lilies grow in wetlands and ponds in the Indian state of Bihar. The seeds are often referred to as the “black gems of the wetlands”.

The production cycle of water lily seeds is sustainable, seasonal and natural. The cultivation takes place without disturbing the ecosystem. The ponds have an automatic sowing system. Seeds remaining above the pond bed, i.e. not harvested, germinate for new plants.

So far, the use of water lily seeds in the food industry is not widespread. However, the water lily seeds are ideal for sweet and savoury snacks or a topping for delicious dishes or breakfast bowls, muesli or porridge.

We are absolutely convinced of the nutrients and properties of the puffed water lily seeds. The water lily seeds are said to have health benefits, which is why they have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for decades.

On the other hand, the seeds contain healthy nutrients such as fibre, protein, iron, magnesium and amino acids. At the same time, the water lilies taste relatively mild and can be processed excellently in the puffed state and refined with spices and chocolate.

The water lilies and all the recipes used are vegan and therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Water lily seeds are naturally gluten-free.

During production, we strive to avoid cross-contamination. However, we cannot guarantee that our products are safe for people with celiac disease.

In common parlance, different plant families are often referred to as lotus. Then one speaks predominantly of the natural lotus (Nelumbonaceae) or other types of water lilies (Nymphaeaceae).

At first glance, lotus flowers and water lilies, also popularly known as water lilies, look very similar, although they belong to different genera. There are a few distinct differences.

The leaves make it easy to tell the difference between water lilies and lotus. The water lily leaves have a V-shaped incision, whereas the lotus leaves do not have a notch. The water lily leaves also lie directly on the water’s surface, and the top is shiny. The leaves of the lotus flower, on the other hand, look velvety and, except the leaves formed first, stand over the water with long stalks.

The two plant families can also be distinguished by spraying both plants with water. A clear difference can be seen because the water lily does not have the famous lotus effect. The water lily gets wet, whereas the water simply rolls off the flowers and leaves of the lotus flower.

Depending on the flavour, the contents of a pack weigh between 25 g and 30 g. The puffed water lily seeds are very light, hence their low weight.
